Show McVoy Christensen, Dixie College Student, Dies Here On Thursday The ardor of preparations for this year's "D" Day celebrations slackened slack-ened last Thursday when McVoy Christensen, 19, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Christensen, of Salina, died in the McGregor hospital hos-pital at 9 a.m. of heart ailment following intestinal influenza. She had been ill since the previous Saturday, though not thought dangerously so until Wednesday. She has resided in St. George this past five months with her sister, Mrs. Rhulin Pectol, while attending attend-ing the Dixie college as a scholarship scholar-ship student from the Salina high school. Born in Salina, February 14, 1920, she had her schooling there, except for the third grade, which she took at the Woodward school of this city, when the family lived here in 1928-29. Her high school work was completed at Salina, where she served on the year-book staff the jiast two years, her graduating year as editor. She was also a seminary graduate of Salina in 1937. Possessed Pos-sessed of an excellent voice, she ' has been active since childhood in the music life of her community com-munity and was being recognized in the Dixie vocal department, singing in the Stephen Foster production in December and a (Continued on page ten)' McYoy Christensen Death (Continued from first page) member of the main opera chorus at the time of her death. Unusually Un-usually vivacious charm, sincerity, sin-cerity, earnestness in her school work, and sympathy for those unfortunate, were qualities which impressed themselves on her teachers and student associates, say those who knew her. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Christensen and two sisters, Mrs. Rulon Pec-tol. Pec-tol. of St. George and Miss Dodge Christensen of Salina, all of whom were at her bedside when she died. Classmates and teachers paid informal tribute at the Pickett Mortuary from 8 to 9 Friday morning. The body was taken to Salina for funeral services, which were held in the L.D.S. chapel at 2 p.m. Sunday. Attending the services from St. George were Mr. and Mrs. Rhulin Pectol and son. Mr. and Mrs. James Pectol and son, Louis, and daughter. Helen. Bp. Andrew McArthur. John T. Woodbury Jr.. II. L. Reid. and Miss Afton Peters of the Dixie junior college faculty and a large group of student friends. Bishop McArthur, Mr. Reid and Mr. Woodbury were among the speakers at the services. |
