Show Annual Birthday Party Honoring Miss Reynolds Held April 12 ' HURRICANE, Utah The annual birthday anniversary party honoring honor-ing the late Miss Alice Louise Reynolds was held by the St. George anrl Hurricane literary clubs bearing her name Wednes- ; day evening, April 12, in the ; Hurricane high home-making-room. Mrs. Orval Hafen, who initiated the organizations in Washington , county and was its first president, presi-dent, conducted a candle-lighting ! ceremony, symbolic of the years that the chapters inspired by Miss Reynolds have held forth in each town. Past and present presidents from the two clubs, who assisted Mrs. Hafen in the candle-lighting were, Mrs. Marian Snow, Mrs. Rachel Judd, for Mrs. Wilma Kemp, who was unable to attend, Mrs. Anne Pace and Mrs. Alice Cannon, of St. George, with Mrs. Alma Clark, Mrs. Anna Taylor, Mrs. Mary Kleinman and Mrs. Hazel Fawson from the Hurricane group. A pioneer theme motivated the individual programs and the tiny covered wagons and log cabins were given as favors to the guests who sat about tables decorated with boquets of lovely spring lilies. Fifty members and one guest, Mrs. Maude Reid, joined in the program and banquet, over which Mrs. Mary Kleinman, as toastmaster, presided. Toasts relative rela-tive to years of club activities were given by Mrs. Wanda Snow, Mrs. Bessie Judd, Mrs. Helen Reichman, Mrs. Eleanor Reusch, Mrs. Emma Crosby, Mrs. Maurine Wilson, Mrs. Blanche McComb, Mrs. Ruby Webb and Mrs. Lillian McQuaid. Book presentations to the Alice Louise Reynolds shelf in the city libraries at St. George and Hurricane were made by Mrs. Roma Esplin and Mrs. Katharine Larson. Musical numbers at the banquet ban-quet included two choruses, "Sweetest Story Ever Told" and "Song of the Danube", under the direction of Mrs. Cannon and Mrs. Irma Stevens respectively; piano duet, "Love's Dream", Mrs. Mae A. Pace and Mrs. Anne Pace; musical reading, "When Pa Was Courtin' Ma", Mrs. Camilla Judd, accompanied by Mrs. Reid and communal singing of the club song. |
