Show Beet Seed Group Takes Annual Tour Of County Much Interest Shown I The Industry By Outside Farming Interests The Superior Beet Seed Growers of Washington county held their-annual their-annual tour and dinner Wednesday, Wed-nesday, April 29, with 70 growers and official visitors accounted for. The visitors included Eubanks Carsner, senior pathologist of the division of sugar plant investigations investi-gations of Riverside, Calif., Edward Ed-ward Davies of the Union Pacific; Lion Tolman and Dr. F. V-Owens, V-Owens, of the bureau of plant industry; Wm. Peterson, director and N. W. Ownes, assistant, all of the extension division and Dr. R. J. Evans, agronomist of the U.S.A.C.; Earl Hutchings, of the state department of agriculture; Dr. Thomas L. Martin, agronomist; agrono-mist; Jos. K. Nicholes, H. Grant Ivins and Dr. F. S. Harris, all of the B.Y.U, and Mr. Engalls of the .Utah-Idaho Sugar company. This trip was in charge of Anson B. Call Jr., county agent; Moroni Jensen, of the Utah-Idaho company, com-pany, and LeRoy H. Cox, president presi-dent of the growers association. Leaving the postoffice at 9 aja, the caravan visited the St. George Valley and Washington field and other beet seed areas of the local farmers, and the state and federal experimental plot. Much interest was taken in checking the condition con-dition of the crop, the group returned re-turned to the Arrowhead hotel for a noon banquet. Immediately following the banquet, ban-quet, a brief business and general meeting was held. Mr. Call introduced intro-duced the speakers. LeRoy Cox made the opening address followed fol-lowed by Jos. K. Nicholes, former president of the Dixie junior college; col-lege; Doctor Carsner, F. V.Owens, V.-Owens, Doctor Martin, Doctor Peterson, Mr. Engalls, Earl Hutchings and Doctor Evans. The visitors also expressed pleasure plea-sure in their visit and in the promise of the future of this industry in-dustry locally. John H. Sehmutz and Ovanco Gubler. expressed in behalf of growers of both ends of the county, respectively, the appreciation apprecia-tion for the visit of officials and for the cooperation of the countv agent, and federal and state officials of-ficials in furthering this industry. |
