Show Reception Planned To Honor Mary J. Finley Mrs. Mary J. Finley, one of Springville s best-known citizens, will marlc the occasion of her nin'tieth birthday on Sunday with an open-house reception from 2 until 8 p. m., at the family residence, 101,' East Fourth North, to which an invitation invita-tion is extended to all relatives and friends. The social function is being given giv-en by the daughters and sons of the guest of honor and she has given explicit instructions that there are to be no gifts. Active throughout her life in numerous civic enterprises, Mrs. Finley has an outstanding record of achievement in many noteworthy notewor-thy endeavors. For many years she has been interested in 'the preservation of pioneer landmarks and through her efforts in cooperation coop-eration with other committeemen, many memorials to the memory of the early-day settlers have been established. One of the first schoolteachers in the vicinity, Mrs. Finley has always been interested in educational educa-tional projects. She served as a member of the early-day board of education. She has been a booster for home town enterprises and during her earlier life worked in the Red Cross and was district Republican chairwoman. She has served on the Utah county D. U. P. organization organiza-tion and is a charter member of Camp Springville D. U. P. She is also an honorary member of the Home Culture club Proof of her interest in preserving preserv-ing the early incidents of the settlement set-tlement of this city, is the history of Springville on which she has worked many years and which is expected to be a very authentic compilation of interesting facts. Her husband, A. W. Finley, to whom she was married in December, Decem-ber, 1876, died in January, 1938. She has eight sons and daughters, daugh-ters, John Finley, Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Rena Roylance, Mrs. Lydia Palfreyman, Mrs. Eva Hanson, Mrs. Minnie Groesbeck, Arthur Mae and Bess Finley, all of Springville. Spring-ville. She also has numbered among her dscendants, 17 grandchildren grand-children and 19 great-grandchildren. |
