Show SARAH H0UTZ SERVICES HELD With Merle Sargent of the Third ward bishopric in charge, services for Sarah Elizabeth Brin-ton Brin-ton Houtz, who died Wednesday evening, April 10, at the family residence, 356 North Main, were conducted Saturday afternoon in the Third ward chapel. Speakers were Howard Salisbury Salis-bury and Harold Alleman, who spoke appropriate sentiments of condolence to the family. The invocation in-vocation was offered by Charles Boyer, benediction by Floyd Miner, and Willis K. Johnson dedicated the grave. Musical numbers num-bers included a solo by Elmo Coff-man, Coff-man, a vocal solo by Grace Price Kreuger, and a duet by Marge Bird and Evelyn Boyer. Mrs. Houtz was born April 4, 1860, in Springville, a daughter of Evans P. and Harriet Chase Brinton, pioneers of this city. Mrs. Houtz has been active in civic work of the community and was an honorary member of the Home Culture club. She was a devoted mother and homemaker and her hobbies were literature and dramatics. She was married to Mr. Houtz. February 22, 1863. in Provo, and he died in 1916. Three sons also preceded her in death. Surviving are a son and four daughters, Evan B. Houtz, Milwaukee, Mil-waukee, Wisconsin; Mrs. Alberta Shepherd, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Vivian Johnson, Mrs. Bess Lewis, and Mrs. Elizabeth Salisbury, Springville; eif;ht grandchildren; also three sisters, Mrs. Jane Chase. Mrs. Eugenia Carr, Ogden, and Mrs. Bessie Bailey, Provo. Burial was in the City cemetery ceme-tery at the side of her husband, i and under the direction of the Claudin Funeral home. |
