Show ANDREW PIERCE TO BE FETED. ON 80th BIRTHDAY On the occasion of his eightieth birthday, Andrew Pierce will be guest of honor at a dinner held Sunday at high noon at the Chicken Chick-en Roost. He was born September 9, 1861, in Springville, a son of James Madison and Mary Ann Bowman Pierce. Mr. Pierce recalls that in those early days many families lived in dugouts until their homes could be built, and in such a dugout dug-out he was born. Mr. Pierce has lived all of his life in Springville, making his living liv-ing by following the carpentry ' trade. He proudly made the statement state-ment that he had helped build 13 meeting houses, 13 schools, 5 power pow-er plants, a steel plant, a roundhouse, round-house, a bank building, art building, build-ing, and enough homes to make a city as big as Springville. He married Sylvia Winn of Smithfield in the Manti temple. He is the father of six children, five of whom are living. They are: Stanley Pierce of Spanish Fork, Mrs. LaVaun Hales and Clifford Pierce of Springville, Mrs. Jessie Perkins of Smithfield, and Cleo Pierce of Ogden. Also 19 grandchildren. grand-children. He has always been active in the church, serving as a ward teacher for 15 years and is at the present time a high priest. In good health, he is very actively active-ly engaged in various pursuits of an avocational nature and he takes care of his gardens at his home. At the dinner party, a large birthday cake will be a center of attraction, and besides his children Mrs. Priscilla Boyack of Spanish Fork and Art Heavener of Provo will be special guests, i - . |
