Show ELECTION DECLARED Senate and House in Joint Session Canrass the Returns. WASHINGTON, Feb. 8. The Senate nrriV-inf House shortly after 1 o'clock and President pro' 'tern-Fye. v.-ho presided over the Joint session to count the elictoral vote, announced the method of procedure. Senator Burrows, one of the tellers, announced the vote of Alabama for "Allen B. Parker," which caused laughter. laugh-ter. The announcement of the vote for the Democratic nominees caused slight applause, ap-plause, as did the announcement of the first State for the Republican nominees. Miss Alice Roosevelt, daughter of the President, and a party of friends occupied occu-pied seats In the Executive gallery during dur-ing the count of the vote. When the announcement was made of the vote of Missouri there was great applause among the Republicans. Several Sev-eral Senators sitting near Mr. Cockrell exchanged words with him during the applause. At the conclusion of the count the ttllers ' reported that Roosevelt and Fairbanks had received 336 votes and Parker and Davis 140 votes. President pro tern Frye declared that Theodore Roosevelt had been elected President and Charles W. Fairbanks elected Vlce-Fresident Vlce-Fresident for the four years beginning March 4. 1905. The joint convention of the two houses was then dissolved and the Senate Sen-ate proceeded to Its chamber. |
