Show Our Boys . In The Service JAY B. HORROCKS Midshipman Jay-B. Horrocks, USNROTC, of Neola, a student at the University of Utah, departed de-parted from Norfolk. Va., Ag. 3 on a one-month cruise to U. g. and Caribbean ports. The cruise is part of the Navy's annual an-nual summer training program for reserve officer candidates. The cruises provide "on-the- . job" experience in all phases of Navy shipboard operations each summer for more than ; 9,000. U. S. Naval Academy and NROTC midshipmen from colleges col-leges and universities throughout through-out the nation. Five ships of the Atlantic Fleet, including the battleship USS Missouri, make uo the 'training squadron that will visit New York, Colon, Panama, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. JACK H. BACON Jack H. Bacon, airman. USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Bacon, Ba-con, of Roosevelt, was recently advanced to that rating while serving with Naval Air Transport Trans-port Squadron 3. The squadfon maintains its headquarters at the Naval Air Station, Moffett Field, California. JAY B. STEWART Pvt. Jay B. Stewart, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Stewart, former Roosevelt residents, recently re-cently graduated from jump school at Fort Campbell. Ky., I where he has been stationed since his enlistment with the I paratroopers on January 1, 1951. ! After graduating in the early part of July, Jay came home on a furlough, during which he spent part of his time in Roos- ievelt visiting relatives and renewing re-newing acquaintances. Jay is among a group of men ' chosen to make a series of exhibition ex-hibition jumps for some Navy, Marine and Airborne general late in August. WAYNE D. FERGUSON Wayne D. Ferguson, Gusher, has been promoted to the grade of Private First Class, on Okinawa. Okin-awa. He is assigned to the motor mo-tor pool, 41st Engineer Petroleum Petrol-eum Distribution Company, a unit of the Army of Occupation of the Ryukyus Command. Ferguson arrived on Okinawa in May, 1950 via the U. S. naval transport system, after completing complet-ing his basic training at Fort Ord, California. Pf c. Ferguson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert J. Ferguson, Fergu-son, of Gusher. |
