Show THROWN FROM A HORSE. On Monday last Mr. Fred Smith, a young man residing in Logan, was painfully injured by being thrown from a horse. He had been riding down the lane west of the city, when another party, also on horseback, met him and gave a banter for a race. The challenge was accepted, and the horses were started off at a break-neck speed. After a long stretch of road had been traversed, the horse which had the lead stumbled and fell to the ground. The animal ridden by young Smith, which was in the rear, plunged headlong over the prostrate rider and horse, and Smith was thrown on the earth with great violence. His shoulders were bruised and his side very badly hurt, but it is probable that no very serious injuries were sustained. |
