Show REST FREQUENTLY, BUT NOT FOR LONG HOW long does one have to work at his task before he reaches the point of "diminishing returns?" This is the problem that Dr. George - S. Snoddy of the department of psychology psychol-ogy of the University of Utah is working work-ing on experimentally. Of course it varies with the task and the person, and hence every toiler presents an individ-. ual problem. But the general findings have already been achieved. Dr. Snoddy has demonstrated, for ex-. ex-. ample, that if a person rests for ten minutes he gets more good out of the first half, of the recess period than out of the last. This would mean that short and frequent "time-out" periods for such technical work as watchmaking or typewriting would bring the best results re-sults from the standpoint of efficiency. The rule holds for all types of work involving in-volving skill and dexterity of the hand. |
