Show NEWHOUSE P.O. JOB GOES BEGGING A post office inspector came all the way from Salt Lake City to be here upon the day ap- pointed last week to conduct the examinations for the 'office of postmaster of Newhouse. He waited here all day and even took the trouble to use the tel- ehone and communicate with some of the prominent citizens of the thriving mining town in an effort to induce them to come down and take the exam- ination. Handicapped by a fixed stipend or percentage to offer the inspector's efforts were in vain. When Steve Fother- ingham sold his mercantile bus- jness he tendered his resigna- tion as postmaster, mayor and a few other jobs in the mining metropolis, but Uncle Sam nev- er lets one postmaster off until he has a successor appointed or closes up shop. Just now Clar- ence Woodbury is operating the -- Newhouse post office for Mr. Fotheringham until Uncle Sam can secure a new postmaster. The office pays around $300 per year. Wm. Morris may be in- duced to try out for the job, he having succeeded to the mer- cantile job. |
