Show JESUS OF NAZARETH By Julia A. Smithson BIRTH Softly round Judean vales The ancient world lies sleeping, While shepherd boys, by starlight pale, Their nightly watch are keeping. When, lo! one star more brave and bright, To guide their footsteps lowly, Shines where the Christ-child came that night To Mary, chaste and holy. DEATH Darkly loom Judean hills Through bleak winds sadly moaning, And Galilee with surging fills And tempest-tossed is foaming. On Calvary's hill the Nazarene His Father's pledge is keeping, And Mary of Mag-da-la kneels Before her Savior, weeping. "Into Thy . hands, O Lord, My spirit passeth, willing; Bringing not peace, but the sword" (But the prophecy fulfilling). Impending darkness falls! (Unrest and chaos blending.) 'Tis the hour of three in the evening And the veil of the temple rending. RESURRECTION Faintly o'er Judean hills The morn's pale light is gleaming, And Galilee is murmuring low, Her wavelets gently streaming. For night hath passed, and a newborn new-born day" Is the wrath of Death transcAdlng. "Dawn is the hour." the watchman calls, "And the sepulchre is rending." Oh, hour of three in the-evening. That wailed at the Crucifixion, Resurgent morn hath conquered thee And lo! the Resurrection! And Mary of Mag-da-la Her risen Lord is greeting. j The Shepherd to His fold returns Oh, bright and joyful meeting! Salt Lake Tribune. ! |
