Show GOVERNMENT OWNERSHIP OF RAILWAYS INEVITABLE A decade ago the president of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe railway, rail-way, E. P. Ripley, said: "I am thoroughly thor-oughly convinced that I shall live to see the railroads of the country in the control of the government." He was then sixty-two. "The signs may not be plain to you, but they are to me." This remark was made to "Boer-sianer," "Boer-sianer," who, in his article on the subject of the future, of the railroads which appears in Hearst's Magazine for December, draws significant conclusions con-clusions based on a searching analysis anal-ysis of the whole range of events, affecting af-fecting the financial status of the railroads of the United States since the beginning of the war in Europe. |
