Show $1,500,000 DITCH FOR FILLMORE BASIN PLANNED Reclamation of thousands of acres of semi-arid lands in Fillmore basin and especially in the neighborhood of Fillmore proper and Holden is in-eluded in-eluded in a mammoth irrigation plan which has been outlined by local capitalists. It is estimated that the project will cost between $1,500,000 and "$2,000,000 when completed. Arrangements Ar-rangements are being made for a bond election in the district. Artesian wells have been bored by the State in Fillmore basin with considerable con-siderable success, but opportunities for extending the Oak creek canal, drawing its water from Sevier Bridge reservoir, have, become so inviting in-viting that it is predicted the building build-ing of a big ditch into Fillmore will be begun by the latter part of next spring, The men back of the project are Frank D. Kimball, W. S. McCornick, Hebe'r J. Grant and S. A. Whitney. Bishop Maxfield of Delta also is included in-cluded in the list. Experiments made last summer with the soil in the neighborhood of Holden disclosed that it will grow dry farm potatoes and other crops, which usually require irrigation. Under these conditions, it is said that only, a small amount of wfitcr will be needed, from time to time, from the canal and that the canal will serve to water vast areas of land in Fillmore basin. |
