Show Former WX athlete honored by college ALLENTOWN, PA. Chris Bingman, a 1986 graduate of Woods Cross High School and Player of the Year in Utah in 1986 when the Wildcats won the 4-A soccer soc-cer title, has been given the Sydney Weikert Alumni Award at Muhlen-' Muhlen-' berg College in Allentown. Chris is in his junior year at Muhlenberg, majoring in history. He was presented the Sydney Weikert Alumni Award at halftime ceremonies of the homecoming football game on Oct. 22. The award is presented to the outstanding outstand-ing sophomore student-athlete from the previous year. The award is named after Sydney Weikert, a former director of admissions at Muhlenberg College. Mr. Weikert died at a young age of cancer in 1972. Because Mr. Weikert was an athlete at Muhlenberg Muhlen-berg with a good academic record and because he demanded high standards for student admissions, the Alumni Association started and dedicated this award to his memory. mem-ory. The student recipient personifies personi-fies the ideal Muhlenberg College student who is active in athletics and college activities while maintaining main-taining good grades. Chris won the award because he was an outstanding athlete in his sophomore year after breaking the Muhlenberg College scoring record with 25 goal's. He also maintained a high "B" average scholastically and was active in college activities. Chris was also named a Division III All American last year. The Muhlenberg College soccer team last year had a 17-1 record and won its conference. This year its record was 17-2-1 and they set an NCAA record with 13 consecutive shutout games after losing the opening game against Penn State.
