Clipper manager jailed for charity By JUDY JENSEN Editor Employees of the Davis County Clipper helped manager Charlotte Mahi celebrate her one-year anniversary with the company by having her thrown in jail. Woods Cross Police Chief Niles Stahle and Detective Paul Howard handcuffed the shocked Ms. Mahi as the laughing staff cheered them on. It was not until then that Ms. Mahi realized the arrest was being staged in support of the American Cancer Society's fourth annual Jail-a-thon. "I thought it was fun till they kept the handcuffs on me as they led me to the jail," Ms. Mahi told the staff upon her return several hours later. The "jail" was located at Layton Hills Mall and many unfortunate souls found themselves sequestered seques-tered there during the four days of the event. Each jailbird was sentenced to remain incarcerated until they could earn pledges for donations to the cancer fund. Ms. Mahi was fined $1,000, but she was released early for "good behavior" after she had raised $400. She continued her fund raising rais-ing efforts throughout Tuesday and Wednesday, and by late Wednesday Wednes-day afternoon she had succeeded in raising over $1,100. Hundreds of individuals and businesses throughout the county supported the event. Organizers are now looking forward to next year and hope even more "bosses" will be jailed at that time. |
