Show IU. BLACKLISTS SB. UTAHSCEMERY The American Automobile Association Associa-tion at its recent meeting in Salt Lake City declared war on all sec-lions sec-lions of the country that was not affiliated af-filiated with their organization, and particularly all routes leading to Southern California This war on roads including all routes southeast, southwest and south of Salt Lake City. The scenic attractions of Southern South-ern Utah, Mt. Timpanogos, Provo, Canyon, Utah Lake, Bryce Canyon, Fisn Lake, Zion National Park, Cedar Ced-ar Breaks and North Rim of Grand Canyon are to he left out in the cold as tar as their routing are concerned. Southern Utah and Southern California Califor-nia will not dig up to their organization organiza-tion and so are put on the A. A. A. official blacklist. Their avowed intention in-tention is to route all coast travel to central California and the northwest. Under the caption of "New Highway High-way Routing Due A. A. A. Conference Confer-ence Here To Map Tourist Routes Thought Northwest," their news bureau at Washington, D. C. sent out the following item recently: "Travel into the Pacific Northwest has shown a marked increase during the summer months, the country contains the scenic marvels of the west. The national association is working closely with the Pacific Coast clubs to develop business into northern California (Wendover Route) and the northwest during the 6ummer and the road and information informa-tion service these wonderful clubs have established appeal to our members mem-bers and to the millions routed by our clubs." It appears that Utah is to be adver-J adver-J tised as a way station enroute to northern California and the Pacific northwest by the A. A. A. All a tourist needs in Utah, it seems, is a hot dog and a gallon of gas to get him out of the blacklisted state. Its scenic attractions, the greatest in the world, are to be blacklisted by some officious personage who deesn't know whether Bryce Canyon is a new summer sum-mer drink, a brand of hair tonic or one of natures's masterpieces. The Auto Club of Southern California Calif-ornia was referred to at the recent convention in this fashion: "While It is by no means the action of the members of the western clubs, Mr. Smith stated that the Auto Club of Southern California is on the blacklist black-list of the A. A. A. Its members cannot can-not expect to receive any information from A. A. A. clubs. In support of 'his statement, he explained that the ffforts to gain the cooperation of the southern club had met with failure and tnat it had become very evident 'hat the organization desired to continue con-tinue its existence without the affili-ain affili-ain or assistance of the A. A. A. He claimed the California club controlled con-trolled by a clique and in conclusion sal that the 800 clubs of the A. A. v had avowed their intentions of routing tourist traffic elsewhere." This means that all routing by A. A. clubs is to divert all travel away trom southern California and south-Vtah- The Utah State Automo- Association is the local branch " lhe A. A.
