Show JEROME STARTS HIS INQUIRY N ew york july 24 district attorney jerome returned from his summer home at lake villa today and imme began his promised promis sd investigation of the affairs of the equitable I 1 life assurance society at the close of the day mr jerome issued the following statement on which he declined to make any comment 1 I went to the building to meet air harraman as I 1 understood that ho waa tomorrow and I 1 desired to se ane much talked of union pacific preferred agreement I 1 made a caret il examination of tha terms of the agreement mr harriman also stated that his books and papers were in the custody of hla counsel jurige lovett who was instructed ted to waive any of professional fess ional privilege and to produce at any time any of them that I 1 might deem of importance in the conduct of any alon of matters with my jurisdiction the syndicate agree ment was one the terms of which would have at any time been produced for the inspection of the superintendent ol 01 insurance the equitable alfa assurance society was not a party to the eald agreement and had not been at any time 1 I then went to kohn loeb and companas Comp anys building and had an interview with jacob who gave life full information in relation to the details of syndicate operations referred ta in the falck and hendrecks reports producing papers showing the exact character of hose syndicate operations erat ions and volunteering to give me any further information or to produce any other documents which I 1 might at any time desire 0 |
