yesterday yost erday the whole city was in gala dress and every ona was as busy as possible in having a good time the big parada was as great R one as was ever seen and it showed the wonderful contrasts between the days ot the pioneers and the days 0 today the parade moved promptly at 10 entering the southwest corner of liberty park it then marched to the volunteers arch on sixth bast street then countermarched counter marched down tho central drive the order of the parade was as follows first came the mounted platoon of police clearing the way then camo the marshal richard TV young grandson ot brigham young and his aides followed by the fort douglas band leading the united states troops immediately after the troops came the grand army 0 tho republic then in carriages came the surviving pioneers church officials stat officials county officials city officials the nauvoo legion and mormon the second division waa composed ot liberty stake liberty stake float in blan brass distinction the exercises began shortly before 12 governor john C cutler presided an invocation was delivered by president joseph F smith to the bowed and uncovered heads of tho mighty multitude present then cams the hinging of those present en masse ot america the address of welcome was delivered by bishop orson F whitney kent sang the plon w an original song the words of which were as superintendent george II 11 wallace then introduced the pioneers one by one and then the tabernacle choir sang ehg star spangled banner the benediction was pronounced by president AIL lund following ho exercises tho crowds had basket lunches and a great pro 0 o athletic sports and games continuing until almost nightfall all oaths resorts were crowded to aud as one man on a street corner said it Is a wise man who will stay at home today and eat his dinner and be satisfied DR ISAIAH watte DEAD dr isaiah white one ol 01 the oldest medical practitioners in the state Is dead at his home here death came to him sunday at the age of 77 years two months and fourteen days he at one lime had one of the largest and most successful in the state this he kept until his retirement a fevry years ago dr white was a native of new york state where lie was bom in 1828 in 1862 he came to the west seeing in this region possibilities that the physicians of the east could not have he located in nevada and thence went to california but was not permanently established until 1874 when ha came to salt aake the active years of dr whites life were spent contemporaneously wither with Dr benedict sr dr fowler and dr hamilton with those men of medicine he enjoyed a large practice and nun deeds of friends who respected and honored him not only for als knowledge of medicine but for his gentle ness and manliness dr white Is survived by bis widow and a son and daughter dr john T white and mrs lockyer dr white was in practice tor more than fifty consecutive years tha funeral services will DO held today at 1030 at the family residence whitehall 28 south state street burial will bo in mt olivet j TEACHERS convention the eleventh annual convention 0 the utah state teachers association w lit bo held here beginning january A several cities of the state including ogdan provo logan and mantl made a strong bid for the convention portland san francasco and los angeles also offered inducements it the convention could be held in one of those cities several of the teachers ot toe state urged tb selection 0 one or tha other of those cities the resolution of the provo teacher adopted last october offered in modified form in favor of of los angeles the first request tor the meeting of the convention at loa angeles was received by superintendent nelson last fall in a resolution from provo city after a careful consideration ot tha resolution and requests from utah cities the executive committee decided that the association should meet in salt lake city in annual convention january 3 1 and 5 1905 at the close of the convention tho wisdom of selecting salt lake as the place ot holding it was admitted by practically every teacher in the state in holding the convention in salt lake but few ot the teachers 0 the state need be absent PIONEER PAYS VISIT mrs P E wilder who was a member ot the ill fated donner party that passed through this valley in the summer of 1846 one year pioneers settled here and who bad not been here that amo was in tha city from california for pioneer day ehfe donner party was lost in tho great salt desert in N evada aad nearly all died for lack of water the party was stalled in the mountains ot Humbold fc county nov whore the snow fell so fast that they could not get auli there a number of the party died of starvation and others were forced to subsist on the flesh ot those who had died rescue parties then found ethem and saved the lives of the others aira wilder and her daughter have been in salt lake sanca last thursday mrs wilder Is greatly surprised at tho changes that have been made here and says that she cannot ice bow the development of the country from the barren desert it was when the pioneers arrived was brought about SALT TAKERS WIN salt lake city utah july 24 the salt lake country club defeated the butte country club in the third annual golf tournament today thus winning as a permanent possession the lavy son silver cup butte won last year and salt lake the year before making match the deciding event arthur cobb of chicago defeated richards last yar champion of har vad university 5 lip and four to play in 36 holes
