Show GOVERNORS MEET IN UTAH Governors or their representatives of nine lntermountain, coast and northwestern states met with Governor Gover-nor Spry in Salt Lake today to outline out-line plans whereby the rights of these states to their natural resources may l-e preserved and their Interests protected pro-tected In Ihe annual National Conservation Con-servation congress which meets in St Paul, Sept. 5. No time has-been set for adjournment of the governors' meeting, but it is certain' that the matter of tho conservation policy will be thoroughly discussed and some action ac-tion upon which all will agree will be taken. The present meeting was called by Governor Hay, of Washington,, who believes the east is not playing fair In handling the matter of conservation conserva-tion of natural resources and that the cards navo been stacked against tho west in the coming congress at SL Paul. He is outspoken upon the subject and his primary reason for calling the meeting was to form a plan whereby the so-called ".'north-, western idea may be presented to the congress. This idoa Is briefly that the stat?s themselves .should have charge of thj disposition of their lesouices. Gov. Hay classes the altitude of some of the eastern conservationists as alarming-to the west and declares it looks like a deliberate de-liberate attempt to rob the western states of their resources and have I these, resources nlminlstered from the national capital for the benefit o'. the nation at large and not for the good of the states in which the resources re-sources are located. Governor Spry and some of the others oth-ers are more pnclflc in their attitude but are agreed that the west must take prompt action to preserve Its lights. He says: "1 do not think there is any serious seri-ous cause for alarm that the inter-efts inter-efts of the west will be overridden In the St. Paul convention. The west iia.s always beou able to hold Its owu In matters of this kind and I do not see why It should not do so upon (his occasion." Governor Noirls of Montana, Is unable un-able to attend the convention and is m'oled as Faying that In his opinion (he "curds are stacked" against the northwest by the Interests oi the east and it would be useless for the west to attempt to combine against thi cast Gov. Brady of Idaho, who is present. pres-ent. Is the possessor of sonn decided de-cided ideas on the conservation question ques-tion and considers U unfair to the people of the west that their natural r touroes should be controlled by the federal government. He Is quoted an saying that the east, after having exhausted ex-hausted in own resources, now hopes to fall back upon the west to obtain through government administration a share of (he benefits of western re-sources re-sources through ro allies on water power sites, etc. A delegation of three members including in-cluding his private secretary is here to represent Governor Lberhart, of Minnesota.
