Show MAN FALL'S' FROM A CAR H. M. Jones, a section hand In the employe of the Oregon Short Lin, railroad, alighted from a moving street car last night and 1 in the hospltAl today under medical trent-mtnt. trent-mtnt. Jouca Is not badly Injured, the doctor doc-tor In charge stating that he is only bruised and scratched about the fac; with his back slightly wrenched, None of the injuries Is of a serious nature and the man may bo able to Ti'bume his work within the next few ' days. He was taken to the hospital this morning, the accident happening nl 11:30 last night, at the Intersection of Twenty-fifth street and Grant ave Mie. Jones claims that the conductor pushed him off the car whllo it was in motion aud that he had no chanco to protect himself against falllug heavily upon the pavement. Ho claims that he did not want to get IT the car at the point where the accident ac-cident happened but that the conductor conduc-tor Insisted that he leave the car, and, to that end, gave him a shove that burled him to the pavement. Lee Browning had charge of thi car as conductor and he says the man loft the car of his own volition and while he was entreating him to remain re-main on the car until It stopped He says the man was drinking and at Grant avenue insisted on jumping from the car while it was iu motion. He toll the- man to remain on the car until it 6toppcd. and that he had j.lven the signal for the car to stop. It was going at a slow rate of speed when Jones jumped off. The conductor says he grabbed Ji nes and tried to hold blm on the car, but that- be did not succeed In doing so. When Jones struck the pavement he turned a somersault, finally landing squarely on his back. It was at first thought the man was eerlouely Injured, but. after getting to his bunk, bo recuperated considerably and he was left there until this morning, morn-ing, when a physician was sent to give him whatever attention was needed. |
