Show Moisant Has TwoNarrow Escapes on His Way to London Chatham, England. Aug. 18. John B. Moisant, the Chicago aviator who Is attempting to fly from. Paris to London, descended " for the second time near here today, breaking the. propeller and part of the frame of the machine 1n making the second . landing. land-ing. A resumption of tny flight be-, be-, fore tomorrow is improbable. The good fortune which accom-I accom-I panled Moisant in the early stages of 1 bla flight from Paris and in his record-breaking record-breaking Journey across the channel with a passenger, seems to have deserted de-serted him with bi. arrival on English soli. Motor defects la the aeroplane, which yesterday had worked without a slip, forced him to make two successive suc-cessive landings when about half-way on the course between Ivondon and Tilmanstone, whence br a-scended at 4:65 o'clock' this morning. Moisant made an abrupt turn to cape these and the machine cam down heavily to the ground, breaking the chassis and smashing a blaae of the ' propellor. Moisant and hi mechanician were uninjured, but on. looking, over found that the repair could not be accomplished on the spot and that he must wait for new parts, for which they telegraphed to Paris. |
