According to bis physicians this was his best day since being shot In tho neck last Tuesday. This statement state-ment was contained In a bulletin both positive and optimistic Issued at V:15 o'clock tonight Instead of at 0:30 as heretofore. Reports from the hospital that the bulletins from the mayor's bedside were masking the whole truth were widely current thH afternoon and evening with couslderable basis for credence beneath them. The assertion asser-tion was credited to Robert Adamson. the mayors secretary, that the mayor's may-or's condition today was fully as serious ser-ious as at any time since he was shot eight days ago. Other reports had It that the glands in the mayor's neck had begun to swell. Indicating the development of dreaded bloodpolsoning; and from this It was reasoned that. If the swelling swell-ing Increased pressure on the blood teasel abraided by the passage of the bullet might Induce a hemorrhage with fatal results. Secretary' Adamson had answered all these statements which found their way Into print with a flat denial. de-nial. None of the doctors lu attendance attend-ance would even discuss them. The absence of the customary noon bulletin bul-letin was explained by the fact that the mayor was sleeping at the time and that it had not been thought worth while to risk waking him to take his pulse. There remains the fact that there has arisen a consciousness arnon those in touch with both the. public and the sick room, that iae official bulletins are rigorously" confined to the wtaled symptoms and rhat at no tlmo have they ventured an assertion ' that the mayor is our of danger or I any definite progress of his ultimate recovery. - |
