Show Prominent American Fork Native Dies Alma Greenwood Ends Active Career At Home In Delta. Alma Greenwood, widely known in Utah as an educator, and founder of both the old Millard stake academy , and the Sanpete stake academy, which later became the Snow Academy, Acade-my, died in Delta about 6 o'clock Thursday morning, March 14. Mr. Greenwood is a native of this city and spent his early life here. He was a member of the Utah legislature from I'tah county in the sessions of 1917 and 1919, and had been active in other oth-er forms of public activity. He held 1 several county offices and was an ac- i tive Democrat. j Mr. Greenwood sustained an attack j of influenza some time ago. He had ! apparently recovered and Wednesday j night was in apparently good health. He became ill about 5 a. m. and death an hour later was attributed ' either to acute gastritis or a heart , attack. j Funeral services will be held at i Delta, which has been Mr. Green- wood's home for the past several , years, Saturday (today) at 10 a. m. j The body will then be taken to Fillmore, Fill-more, where additional services will be held in the First ward chapel, Sunday, March 24, at 2 p. m. Interment Inter-ment will be at Fillmore. Pie was the son of William Greenwood, Green-wood, and Alice Houghton Greenwood, Green-wood, pioneers of 1S47, and was born in this city, October 18, 1854. The early years of his life were spent here, where he worked upon hia father's farm and attended the B. Y. IT. at Provo. He was one of the original twenty nine students of that institution then under the direction of Dr. Ca-1 G. Maiser. He graduated in 1S73 and went to Fillmore to take charge of the district schools of that city. In 1882 he performed a mission for the L. D. S. church in New Zealand and baptized hundreds of the natives. Upon his return he organized the Millard stake academy under the direotion of the church authorities. This was the original academy under the church system of education. In 1888 he was called to Sanpete county, where he organized the Sanpete San-pete stake academy later known as the Snow academy at Ephraim. That he possessed rare qualifications qualifica-tions as an organizer and teacher is testified to by many leading men and women in Utah who refer to him as a man of wonderful influence with his students. Mr. Greenwood married on June 19, 1879, Florence Melissa Brown of Fillmore, to whom four children were born, three of whom survive: Samuel Greenwood, Los Angeles, California; Alice Helen Derrick and Fern Greenwood Green-wood Vance of Salt Lake City. After the death of his first wife, be married Evelyn Mary Olson, to whom was born a son, Evan Alma Greenwood, now of the TT, S. Navy, Washington D. C. His mother died at bis birth. Tn 1901, Mr. Greenwood I married Annrna Sorensen of Fillmore, Fill-more, who survives hfm. The follow-I follow-I ing brothers and sisters also are living: Benjamin Y.
