I MORGAN, UTAH, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5, 1912 EDUCATION V. R. Boliman has SuperiutPudent just completed his v is'ting tour of the schools, and reports that he finds the teachsfs hae the work well in hand, and are doing remarkably well for so early in the school year, and is pleased to find all so well satisfied with the conditions surrounding them. The schoolmaam is the guiding star of the republic, bhe takes the little bantling fresh from the home nest, full of his pouts, his pets and his passions, ungov ernable in many cases, a rampant, riotous little wretch whose own mother often admits she sends him to school purposely to get rid of him. The schoolmaam takes a whole earload of these little anarchists, half of whom, singly and alone cannot be handled by their own mothers, and she puts them in the way of becoming useful citizens and doesnt it seem too bad when these children aie only fairly started, say perhaps the sixth or seventh grade, they are allowed to remain out of school to driv e milk wagons, to help thresh, to run errands for the parents during Bchool hours, and numerous oth er cases that can be seen where parents do not help enforce this so essen tial law, for the benefit of their child in later years. Is a parent ev er repaid for allowing a child to run lifes race under the handicap of a poor education? That Superintendent Bobman says there are a great many boys and girls out of school who should be obtaining that which would be of great value to them iu later years. MORE ROOM NEEDED FOR CLASSES You need only visit the Morgan school building to be convinced that more room is needed for class work. The court house will be used for this purpose; but it is far from convenient, and only makes the necessity of a new building for the high school more apparent. Would it not be a good thing to look forward to this emergency and prepare to meet it during the early months of thp eoyuug year bv nmfciasr provion for the election of a n Jad d i ft btf'Tb TTIo present building or construct an entirely new one? The high school movement is taking on such an impetus throughout the state as to arouse all classes of people. Morgan county is awakening to the call of secondary education and her people will meet and solve- - this problem as other communities of the state are doing. The writer has faith in the educational progressiveness of Morgan county. TO THE PARENTS. In behalf of the teachers and children ot the South Moigan District and of the high school, the undersigned calls upon every parent having the custody of chil- dren who should be in school, to see to it that those in their cliaige are enrolled the coming week. The schools are not conducted as they were years ago. We do not con tinually go over the same ground, but our work for each month and for each year is so arranged as to occupy the full school term to complete it Those who are denied early attendance are at a disadvantage the wbolfi semester.
