Show FIRMLY FACING THE FACTS. There is not a line of pessimism In the following from the Butte Miner: Why be peslmistic about the war situation ? Is there any good cause for It? Not at all. The Huns have not demoralized the allied and American lines. The German commanders who have driven their men in like sheep in an effort to break the opposinc lines by sheer weight of numbers have sacrificed sacri-ficed many thousands of their men. What of It If the allied lines have taken positions farther back? They have retired in perfect order ojiu wtrrj ioui 01 jrrouna over wnicn the Hun forces have advanced has cost Germany a fearfully heavy toll In man power. And it must be remembered that man power is after all the chief essential essen-tial Guns may be captured, but they can be replaced. Trench lines may be taken, but tho may be recovered again as the fortunes for-tunes of war vary. Various mechanical devices used in the conflict may be destroyed, but others oth-ers like them can be built. But man power is the one creat factor fac-tor that counts most of all. and it Is something that Germany has been los-inc los-inc In a way during the past few weeks that should cause real consternation conster-nation even among the kaiser coterie. Maintaining their lines In excellent formation and delivering sledge-hammer blows as the enemy has pressed forward, the British and the French and the American forces have mowed down the oncoming Germans who have been sent to their doom In mass formation. forma-tion. The kaiser and his generals are declared de-clared on good authority to have called out Germanj 's last reserves The offensive movement which the kaiser instituted along the western front, is his last great endeavor. It is doomed to failure for the very reason that no matter how much territory' terri-tory' his forces pfess forward over, they cannot hold their positions, and what Is more, the cause of civilization never can be defeated by kalseristlc autocracy. There is every reason for all the people of Great Britain and France and the United States and all our other oth-er allies in the war getting in and devoting de-voting more energ than SVSr to our war cause, maintaining our fichting forces In the field and aiding our war funds. But as for pessimism If you fo the least bit blue about the war situation situa-tion forget to be iSat way. oo |
