Show Farewell Sunday In 3rd-9fh Ward For Robert Thorn Missionary Called To Africa Will Go To Home Monday, February 14 Robert Thorn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul A. Thorn of this city, has been called to the African LDS mission from the Ninth ward, and plans to leave on Monday, February Febru-ary 14, for the mission home in Salt Lake City. He is going to the same mission rrr 1 :" ( ; ' I r A v j V Robert Thorn in which his father entered 24 years ago this spring. Following completion of his training at the home, Elder Thorn will go to the Texas-Louisiana mission temporarily until his visa is granted. In his honor a farewell testimonial testi-monial program will be given in the Third-Ninth ward chapel, Sunday Sun-day evening, February 13, at 7:30 p. m., to which all members of the ward and friends of the missionary are invited. The program will open with congregation con-gregation singing "The Spirit of God Like a Fire is Burning," followed fol-lowed by invocation by Dean Packard. Pack-ard. Following sacrament service will be remarks by J. Y. Bearnson, bishop of the Fifth ward, and there will also be remarks made during the evening by Clarence L. Jensen of the Ninth ward bishopric; bishop-ric; Bishop Wilford W. Ciyde, and by -the parents of the departing missionary. Elder Thorn will respond. re-spond. Musical numbers for the evening include a piano solo by June Thorn, sister of the missionary; a vocal solo, Miss Thora Whiting. The closing prayer will be "God Be With You," followed by benediction benedic-tion by Dick Sumsion. Enrolled as a sophomore at the Brigham Young University, Elder Thorn is a graduate of the Springville Spring-ville high school and seminary. He has taken an active part in church work in the wards, and has served as organist in the stake, as well as in the various wards. |
