The Armenian patriarchs, the heads of their people here, have asked me to transmit to the Herald their request that it thank tho American people for the succor and sympathy extended to the inhabitants of Constantinople,' They declared that tills American aid was deeply appreciated and never will be forgotten. The Armenians of Constantinople regard America as thG savior of the remnant of the Armenian race, they say. Armenian newspapers voice the same sentiment and print long articles showing the popular enthusiasm over the cheap bread provided by America. Indeed, today to-day is, In this connection, a great day for Constantinople, for, after suffering for four years and seeing the price of food rise to a more than prohibitive point, the people were able to purchase bread of the best quality for 123 piasters a kilogramme. kilo-gramme. The result is that all classes are addressing ad-dressing their thanks to the American people and government.
