Show spop "s fl U By Ernie Milnor How Ioiik has it been since Moab has had an all-slate basketball player? i "j Well, vMlh the selection of hnc Daniels and Steve Wyatt, Moab does not have to look too far back. The honor is deserved by both of these young men and we congratulate them. Steve Wyatt has been one of the more consistent scorers in the his-lorv his-lorv of the School and could pos sibly be the highest scorer for Grand County High School. , Daniels is an all-around player that hustles hus-tles well on defense, rebounds very well and can score when given the ball. Although these two young men are honored for their efforts in basketball, others have logo unnoticed. The players have to give each other help and confidence throughout the season and the young men that play here are no exception. Gene Roberts, a junior; Von lsaman and Mike Steele, seniors: were selected as first team all-region. This makes the starting five that have received post season honors. This is great. Maybe someone has heard of the Red De iK now . Now that basketball is over, we can get down to baseball and track and golf and just plain taking it easy in the sun. Along with holding the honors in basketball. GCHS is also the defending champions in baseball and golf. How many other schools in the stale have been able to make that claim to fame recently '.' The baseball team opened its season Tuesday against Carbon High School and the golf team will start in short order to defend its title. We w i-.li them luck. The Class 4-A championships went down to the wire again this year with Provo coming out on top over Orem for the third time this year. That win gave Provo 25 wins against no losses for the season. The Red Devils have a record of 21 wins and one loss. I'm not to sure if any team has a better I record than the Red Devils this year other than j Provo. But if you are going to play second ' fiddle to someone, then Provo is the one. ; The players seem to be getting taller all the time (.famous words uttered recently) and the players from throughout I'tah show the size that is present. Play ers fi ll" are not common in High School but Provo had one playing this year and he will be back for next season. Other tall timber in the slate range up to 6'S" and 6'7' is nearly common. ' Fifteen years ago if a team could sport a reaver (i'.V.-, he. was considered a giant. I1' 'Although the players still keep going taller. I it is nice to see 'that they have not taken over completely. There i- still a place for the shorter player in the high school level. |
