Show Dear tlditor: Since the announcement announce-ment of the special election elec-tion to be held on the proposed nursing home, I have been anxiously awaiting some concrete information to appear in the Times. So far, only some hearsay of unrealistic figures have been floating float-ing around and I refuse to listen or discuss them until I see something in print. I do find that at the present time, there are only about six patients from Grand County in nursing homes outside of the County. I am wondering won-dering if a survey has been made to find if there are other potential poten-tial patients in the area to fill a 35 or a 50 bed nursing home. If I were to accept the figure being passed around for entrance into and monthly keep, I would have to say I know few if any potential patients pa-tients because that figure fig-ure would be prohibitive. There is not much time for the discussion of such an important matter and I hope that in the near future some information in-formation on the proposal propos-al will be printed. Also, I hope that some knowledgeable know-ledgeable person will (or persons) subject themselves them-selves to questioning on the subject. Of importance; is the Federal monies to be . used, a guaranteed fund or can it be withdrawn by a chief executive; how much money are we talking about for maintenance and administration; admin-istration; and how much increase in our mill levy will be necessary: Finally, I shall look . forward to reading the Times - Independent's stand on the proposal. Sincerely, F. M. Pimpell Dear Sam: Last week, the Highway High-way Patrol arrested a young man, en route from California to Colorado Colo-rado Springs, and charged charg-ed him with driving an improperly registered vehicle. For this offense he was fined S25 or 5 days in jail. So far, a fair application of the law although a jail sentence sen-tence for such a trivial offense seems to me questionable. However, before he left town the following charges accumulated against this person: a fee to release his dog which had been impounded; impound-ed; a fee (-S32) to release his automobile, which had been impounded; and the requirement that he possess registration before he could take his car on the road again -of course we could accomodate ac-comodate him with genuine gen-uine 100 Utah plates. So, our young transient, who had found it more difficult to get through Crescent Junction than he would have the Berlin Wall, was coerced into spending in excess of S75 for driving an improperly im-properly registered vehicle. ve-hicle. I do not argue that if a person breaks the law (a reasonable law) that he should be made to make restitution. But if the above episode is at all typical , of the way in which violators are harrassed, I submit that not only are we a community com-munity that is losing our heart, but our soul as well. Sincerely, The Rev. Sanford E. Hampton Dear Editor: I was present at the last Moab City Council meeting and watched our honorable leaders spend nearly $90,000 of federal revenue sharing funds. Today, March 15, 1973, I was in our city offices and asked our town mayor why the traffic signal on the corner of " 1st North and Main has not been repaired since before last winter. To me the mayor replied, "Aww, that signal is all right. Don't worry about it." Dear Editor, I am writing this letter to ask if the people of Moab feel the same way about that traffic signal? Respectfully, Dan Sites Dear Editor: It seems to me if, road weight restrictions can be placed on certain highways that something should be done for residential resi-dential areas! We waited nearly a year for 4th East to be completed so as to permit per-mit thru passage directly direct-ly to the highway, yet we the residents of Walker Subdivision, especially Tusher Street, are constantly con-stantly annoyed with semi's, trucks and commercial com-mercial trailers, County vehicles using our street as a regular highway. Now why shouldn't there be weight restrictions restric-tions here? What about all the toddlers and young children who can dart out into the street without any notice? We who live here are cautious cau-tious and used to it, but what about the trucks? Let's do something some-thing about this and put up some signs for us too! Janice Mahlstede , |
