Cafe May Re-Open by Dec. 15 Repair work on Mt. Air Cafe is proceeding on schedule ana owner George Polychronis said he was hoping to re-open the popular restaurant December 15. The October 8 fire caused approximately approxi-mately 70 per cent damage and completely gutted the inside, as well as destroyed furniture and equipment. The exterior of the Cafe has been almost completely re-built. Mr. Polychronis said equipment for the interior is in Salt Lake and will be installed soon. He added there will be no major cHanges either on the menu or design inside the restaurant. Progress on the Cafe over the past 4 weeks was described as "real good" by Mr. Polychronis. He said it would cost around $240,000 to repair the ruins from the devastating blaze. Shortly after closing time on Saturday, October 8, a pick up truck driven by a free lance stuntman went out of control off of Highway 224 and slammed into the gas main, located southeast of the cafe. Gas leaked through broken windows and continued to feed the flames. The Park City Fire Department was on the scene within minutes and the driver of the truck, who received only minor injuries, was taken out of the blazing vehicle to safety by Park City police officer, Mike Crowley. The driver, Richard James, is scheduled to appear before Judge Brent Gold at the Memorial Building Thursday, November 17. James is being charged with failing to keep his vehicle under control and also driving under the influence of alcohol. If found guilty, he could face a jail term of 60 days andor a fine of $299. |
