Show Deer Hunters Do Well "Better than in past years." "Better than last year." "Good as expected up from last year." "Good; hunter success u$ from last year." In a very few words, these reports from the regional offices of the Division of Wildlife Resources sums up the general trend in the recently completed 1977 deer hunt. AH repions, with the exception of the southeastern area, reported improved hunting success over recent previous years and an excellent hunter success ratio. According to Homer Stapley, assistant chief of Game Management, Manage-ment, the 1977 deer hunt went just about as predicted. Division biologists had predicted that deer herd populations would be up this fall, partly because of the mild winter last year; and the data collected to date has proved the accuracy of those predictions. Harvest figures have been increasing for the past three years, but 1977 has provided the highest production numbers so far recorded for that period. |
