Show Snow Report Looks Good Snow condition predictions released Thursday by the Utah Travel Council show enough to wax enthusiastic about upcoming conditions at ski resorts. The Utah Ski Consolidation asked Wcathcrbank, Inc., Salt Lake City, to make some long-range forecasts. Results for Aha and Brighton, respectively, by Thanksgiving Day are for 19 to 26 inches of snow and 13 to 18 inches. Normal by then is 27 inches at Alta and 19 inches at Brighton. Predictions for Christmas Day arc 4h to 57 inches of snow at Alta (44 normal) and 39 to 48 inches at Brighton (38 normal). The Wcathcrbank predictions are said to be based mostly on historical weather patterns. "Naturally, these predictions are not infallible," said J. Phillip Kccnc III, travel council director, "But wc hope the Weatherbank forecast, coupled with other estimates, bodes well for this year's ski season." He added that the agency anticipates a $40 million to $45 million season this year after losing a estimated $25 million though the 1976-77 drought. Also in connection with predictions predict-ions of snow despite unseasonably unseason-ably warm weather, the Utah Department of Transportation Thursday issued its annual reminder to motorists on traction equipment required, beginning Tuesday through March 31 on U-210. Little Cottonwood Canyon, and U-152. Big Cottonwood Canyon. The department added that radial tires w ithout snowtread do not meet these requirements. |
