James King will go to his home in Green River, Wyo., from a SaltVLake hospital with two good legs instead ot one solel because of the wpnders of modern surgery. When he came here for treatment the femoral artery had bulged above tholght knee until it was as large asran orange' and gangrene gan-grene had started. A ery rare operation op-eration originated by Dr Matns ot New Orleans was performed. It consisted con-sisted of running 'a seam along one side of the sac, leaving a hem with an opening as large as the natural channel. The arterial coudult thus manufactured was about four inches long. Dr. H N. Mayo, the operating surgeon, says that normal circulation has been completely restored throughout through-out the limb. The Matas operation, In his opinion, can be used successfully on any arterial aneurism where the flow of blood can be temporarily stopped. , oo |
