The building was an old one-story -shack, owned by Senator Clark of Montana. It la virtually a complete loss. ' , - It Is fortunate, Indeed, that the fire department was near at hand, the central cen-tral station being only two blocks dls . tant. Immediately south of the burned structure Is Sam Levy's cigar store and factory, which but for the prompt arrival ar-rival of the fire department would have bei quickly consumed. "Within twenty minutes after the alarm was turned In, the blaze was under' un-der' control and the danger of a general conflagration was averted. The .moving picture company's outfit, owned largely by James McConaghy, was a total loss. A red hot carbon from the electrie light which fell into a box of the films caused the blaze which, owing to the Inflammable nature of the material, burned like tinder and the entire interior in-terior of the building was a mass of flames and within three minutes after the blaze 'was discovered, it had spread through the interior. There were in the building at the time the fire broke out fifteen persons connetd with the" c!npir.atPi?rarh , -coiiar.y. t.11 of whom ccapeJ -.vithout Injury. "" . .. Sam Levy, the "veteran cigar manufacturer, manu-facturer, who -occupies the building adjoining the one burned, said that this Is the fourth fire that has threatened ; his business. On two occasions he suf - ' fered slight losses, once his entire busi- - ' ness was destroyed, and this Is his first In which no loss was. sustained. The firemen did excellent work in confining con-fining the flames to the building in -which they originated and preventing them spreading to the Sam Levy Cigar factory, the New York Cash store and to the Smith Drug store on the corner. |
