Show Granger Asks Investigation for Missing Seaman WASHINGTON, March 12 (AP) A request for a congressional inquiry in-quiry in to the death of a Utah seaman was followed Monday by a navy disclosure that he apparently appar-ently was washed off his submarine submar-ine during diving training. The youth, S 1c Joseph Grant Snow, Delta, Utah, is listed missing. Rep. Walter K. Granger (D), Utah, told the house it was acase of "almost "al-most criminal negligence." He said the seaman was on deck "when the commander submerged the vessel and left him to perish." The congressman con-gressman asked the naval affairs commiltee to look into it. According to the commanding officer's version, Snow was found missing at 8:30 p. m Jan. 4. He had been lookout during operations in the afternoon. A pair of binocu-lars binocu-lars normally used by lookouts also al-so was missing. The submarine was some distance dis-tance from land and operating "in very cold water," it was said. Salt Lake Tribune The youth's uncle, P-iem Snc". president of Dixie College, St. George, checked navy depaiimenc records in Washington, D. C, recently re-cently while attending National Education Directors meeting. The information that Mr. Snow gathered gather-ed conflicts with the letters the parents have received from the commanding officer of the submarine. sub-marine. Representative Granger brought the matter up in Congress of his own accord and not from the request re-quest of the parents. As Mr. Granger Gran-ger stated later, his oily desire in asking for an investigation is to make people more cautious so that these things will not happen in the future. Rep. Granger's request is based upon evidence submitted through the Personnel Office at. Arlington, Va., and letters received by J. Grant's parents from authoritative sources.
