Show UTAH FEARS RESULT I . OF B. f. U, BATTLE j Absence of Beal and Packer Regarded as Serious Loss to Varsity. Coach Nelson H. Norgren of the University Uni-versity of Utah, who has been ill during the last three days as the result of an operation op-eration for an absceps in his ear, yesterday yester-day sent his basketball warriors through a strenuous practice in preparation for the Brigham Young University game in Frovo tomorrow night. The coach, evi-j dently suffering under the effects of a sore ear, made his players work doubly hard. Captain Eldon Beal also appeared on the scene with his trusty right hand in a sling, and the two leaders, although unable un-able to do any work themselves, took revenge re-venge for theyr infirmities on their plavers. The university team is In grave danger dan-ger of defeat at the Brigham Young college col-lege tomorrow night. Beal will be out of the game, us well as Packer. As a result, both the forward position and the guard, ) defenses will be weakened. The B. Y. U. , team, on the other hand, freshened by several victories of late. Is in the prime nf condition for a hard battle. i An excursion will be sent from Salt i Lake to the game, and it is expected that about 100 persons will make the trip. The Chronicle office of the university has been busy making reservations for persona per-sona wishing to take the trip for the past . two days. Van Pelt, Udy and Clark have been ! working together in the forward positions 1 of late. The coach has not determined which two he will start in tomorrow's game, but it Is thought that Van Pelt and Udy will begin the fray. Clark, who did such phenomenal work with Packer on the recent northern trip of the university uni-versity team, has not played much with either Van Pelt or Udy, and has had a hard time learning their styles of play. Knowlton and Romney will do the guarding, with Abbott as first assistant. This pair works well on the defense, and Utah will not suffer so much in this department de-partment as in the scoring division. Beal. t lie captain, has been especially efficient in making baskets this season. Briggs and Slclntyre will do the center work. Coach Norgren has been alternating with these men durin- the season. Briggs is good on the floor and can throw baskets well. Mclntyre, who played a good game in the recent Utah-Illinois A. C. fray, has the advantage of Briggs on the jump, hut is a little too heavy to stand the fast floor work demanded during more than half a game. Watson of the Weber academy will be the referee in tomorrow's game, and "Happy" Holmstead of American Fork, formerly of the university, will be the umpire. |
