Show BRAVE II HONORED BY era III Corporal M ichael Leary Gets Victoria Cross for Capturing Barricade. LONDON, Feb. 1 18, 7:55 p. m. Lieutenant Lieu-tenant Arthur Martin-Leake of the royal army medical corps has been awarded a clasp to the Victoria cross, an extremely unusual honor. Lieutenant Martln-Leako won the Victoria Vic-toria cross in the South African war, and as this decoration is bestowed only once on an individual, the clasp has been given him for "most conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty throughout the campaign, cam-paign, especially during the period from the 20th of October to the Sth of November, No-vember, near Zonnebeke in rescuing, while exposed lo a constant fire, a large number of wounded who were lying close to the enemy's trenches." Lieutenant Colonel F. W. Alexander of the royal field artillery has been awarded the Victoria cross for saving his guns at' Elouges, Belgium, while under a flank a.ttaek, and for rescuing a wounded man while under a heavy fire. Among others who have received tho Victoria cross are Drummer William Kenny Ken-ny for rescuing men on five occasions while under fire and twice saving machine ma-chine guns by carrying them out nf action; ac-tion; Lieutenant J. A. O. Brooke of the Gordon Highlanders. Captain John Franks Vallentin and Lieutenant F. A. DePass, all of whom were killed, for leading attacks at-tacks on German trenches and rescuing wounded; James Mackenzie of the Scots guards, who also was killed, and Privates Pri-vates Henry Tiobson of the roval Scots, Abr;im Acton and James Smith of tho Border regiment and Lieutenant rhillp Neame of the royal engineers for rescuing rescu-ing wounded, and Lance Corporal Michael Leary of the Irish guards for conspicuous bravery at Cuinchy February l.
