Show WILLI REFUSES TO FIGHT HI NEW YORK Passes Up Dempsey Entirely Entire-ly and Says He Will Do His Bit in Kansas. NEW YORK, Nov. 1. Jess Willard, world's heavyweight boxing champion, does not intend to journey to this city for the purpose of boxing for the United States war work campaign fund, accord- ing to a telegram made public today by Chairman James W. Coffroth of the national na-tional boxing committee. ' Willard's telegram.said: " Just returned' to Wichita Falls, where your wire awaited await-ed rpe. Will be unable to come to New S'orK. Have promised committee this state to put on at least two shows. Committee Com-mittee here will make arrangements for boxing partner." Chairman Coffroth stated that he would not accept Willard's refusal as final. The western promoter rlans sending another telesrram in an effort to convince Willard that the greatest financial returns can be reaped by a bout in New York in which he is one of the principals. Willard also says Dempsey is out of the question as his likely opponent. |
