Special to The Tribune. OGDEN, Nov. 1. Corporal Mearl Wheelwright, 26 years of age, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Wheelwright, 750 Twenty-sixth Twenty-sixth street, is the first Ogden boy, reported re-ported here, as having made the supreme sacrifice in the battle line between Verdun Ver-dun and the St. Mihiel. salient. The death of the young man was announced in the official dispatch from the war department, de-partment, and was to the effect that the young soldier was "killed in action" October Octo-ber 6. Corporal Wheelwright left Ogden in May of this year with the contingent that went to Boulder, Colo. He then went to Camp Dodge and was made a corporal and assigned to the 313th engineers, engi-neers, with which regiment he was sent overseas. The last letter received from hi in was dated September 22, and said that he was feeling fine and for the folks not to worry about him, as he was all right. Prior to entering the service Mr. Wheelwright Wheel-wright was employed by the George A. Lowe company of this city as salesman. He is survived by his parents and the following brothers 'and sisters: Mrs. J. P. Wallace, Mrs. John Owens, Mrs. John Porter, Miss Nellie Wheelwright, T. G. and Roy Wheelwright and R. T. and J. H. Adams. |
