Show Cedar City Council Hears Report on 1967 Activities improvement in all programs with emphasize in the Ameri- Review of 1967 activities and a look at 1968 concerned members mem-bers of the Cedar City Council at their meeting Thursday, Jan. 18. Mayor Loren Whetten indicated indi-cated that a financial report of the city for the first six months of the fiscal year was presented indicating that the city was operating within their budgetary limitations. All phases of the finance were in good order, he indicated. j Ken Benson, head of the citv's recreation department can Legion Baseball, Men's Softball, Girl's Aquatics, Senior Sen-ior Citizens programs, and Hunter Safety Courses. He also suggested continuing continu-ing to work closely with clubs, merchants and individuals who donate so much to the program. The back bone of the program is the help received re-ceived from these people, he indicated. He estimated a $10,000 donation annually from these sources. A water report for 1967 was also presented indicating that also appeared before the council coun-cil to report on activities during dur-ing the 1967 year. He indicated that recreational recrea-tional activities hit a new high during the year with a total of 44,856 hours of supervised recreational activities being provided. That compared, he indicated to 35,491 hours in 1966 and 25,901 hours in 1965. A total of 208 youngsters I participated in at least one ( phase of the Junior Life Saving Sav-ing Program at the municipal, pool and participation in the Acquatics Show also showed j considerable increase, his re- j port indicated. i In commenting on the pro-1 gram the chairman expressed a need for the program to con-' j tinue on as recreation director form of organization. He sug- J gested continual coordinating ' with the Iron County Schools and the College of Southern Utah and called for a general , the city had again qualified as an approved system through the Utah State Division Div-ision of Health. A complete summary of the water report will be published in next week's issue of the Iron County Coun-ty Record. A report of the Cedar City Police Department was also presented indicating that a total of 232 arrests had been made during the year as well as citations issued for 1926 traffic violations. The question of paralell parking was also renewed at the council and reports concerning con-cerning parking throughout the city were presented. The Safety Committee has recommended recom-mended that paralell parking be enforced throughout the city and Mayor Whetten in dicated that the issue would probably be brought to a vote j at the next meeting of the council on February 1. |
