In assuming his new posi- , tion, Dr. Braithwaite announc-1 ed that emphasis will be plac-1 ed on coming festivals to make them genuinely representative repre-sentative of the culture of Utah, as well as attractive to the top student talent of th.e nation. "We shall continue to draw gifted young actors and actresses from colleges and universities in all parts of our country and from abroad, but we feel that our own state of Utah has talent in abundance to make a most significant contribution to the perpetuation of the Utah Shakespearean Festival as a state cultural event of the highest level," ho said. Dr. Braithwaite reported that Mr. Adams is now accepting applications from those interested inter-ested in participating in the 1968 festival. Inquiries should be addressed to: Fred C. Adams, Utah Shakespearean Festival, Cedar City, Utah. Plays planned for July and August production include "Romeo and Juliet," "As You Like It," and "King Henry IV, Part I." Dr. Royden C. Braithwaite, president of College of Southern South-ern Utah, has been named chairman of the Utah Shakes-I Shakes-I pearean Festival Board of Directors. Dir-ectors. He replaces Maurice Crichton, Cedar City, who served serv-ed a year's term as the board chairman. Mr. Crichton will remain as a member of the board. Dr. Braithwaite has served as president of CSU for 13 years. He was instrumental, with Fr.ed C Adams, CSU i drama director, in the founding found-ing of the Utah Shakespearean Shakespear-ean Festival seven years ago. Other members of the festival festi-val board are Dr. Eugene T. Woolf, board secretary and Dean of the CSU School of Arts. and Letters; Dr. Reed W. Farnsworth, Cedar City, and |
