Show (JOCIETT ONE HUNDRED GUEGTS. About 100 guests were delightfully onterlained by tho M. U. M. club, Tuesday, Feb. 14, at the Seventh Ward 'hall. The Invitations wero clever llttlo stanzas in a characteristic character-istic Indian meter, and carried with them tiny red arrows. A delightful color scheme was worked out in red and green, tho club colors. Streamers of "red and green cropo paper were so won together as to form a perfect per-fect ennopy overhead, and a. camp fire glow was thrown over all by tho pretty red and green lamp shades. The large red letters M. U M., together to-gether with beautiful palms and ferns made an effective screen for tbo musicians' mu-sicians' balcony. Beautiful potted plants also adorned the several corners cor-ners and windows. A border of tiny Indians and tomahawks In silhouette, silhou-ette, cut from red cardboard ran around the four walls, under a draping drap-ing of red nnd. green streamers which were looped from tho celling. A lovely love-ly punch bowl banked In Smllax, ferns and scarlet carnations, was presided pre-sided otcr by Misses Jean Wilson and Marjorio Chase who served tho guests to mock "firewater" In a very pleasing manner. A program of twenty dances with Indian names wa3 begun by grand march led by MIbs Alice Hadflold and Mr. Asael Had-field. Had-field. A'pproprlato Indian selections wore rendered by an orchestra conducted con-ducted by Roscoo Glasmann. A spocial car met tho guests at 12:30 and conveyed them to thoir homes rojolclng over tho general good time. The Wbat-I-Cau girls entertained a largo company of young people In tho Baptist church parlors last evening even-ing at a "Kitchen Social." Each guest received a carefully engraved copy of tho What-I-Can girls' cookbook, a compilation of tested recipes -which mado an appropriate appro-priate souvenir for the occasion. It., at the beautiful beauti-ful home of Mr. and Mrs. Russell. on Lincoln avenue, on last Saturday atfernoon. The rooms wero beautifully beauti-fully decorated with flags and pots of lovely ferns and decorations. The guests, numbering about fifty, listened lis-tened to the following program: Song by tho little James children, which was beautifully rendered and called for an encore. Reading by Mrs. King, president of Grant circle. Recitation Reci-tation by Mrs. Gertrude Can, which was greatly enjoyed. Song by Miss Grace Russell, which was sung in a j soft, sweet tone. Song by the cir-' cle, that inspiring old song, "Battle . Hymn of the Republic." The little James children again rendered a song, by request, which was enthusiastically received. Then last, but not least, was tho talk by Judge J. D. Murphy, on rem- j inlscences of Lincoln's career, which was greatly enjoyed. Refreshments were served by tho ladies in charge of that part of tho program, and who In their own gracious gra-cious manner rendered their part bo gracefully. BIRTHDAY PARTY. Tho pleasant homo of Mrs. Holt on North Washington avenue was Invaded Invad-ed by tho members of the Neighborhood Neighbor-hood Birthday club recently, the occasion occa-sion being tho birthday anniversary of Mrs Holt. A pleasant social time was had, and tho presentation of a handsome Persian rug, tho gift of the club, with appropriate remarks and wishes for "many happy returns of tho day," was an enjoyable feature of tho affair An elaborate luncheon was served.
