Show iCIDITION ISlf Many Died in .Cars, Some Lying Helpless, Others Shot by Officers. Los Angeles, Jan. 29. Nineteen cars of cattle from tho range at Wilcox, Arizona, are being shipped . by the Southern Pacific railroad to Bakers-field, Bakers-field, Cal., and arrived in this city today to-day In a terrible condition. Many of the cattle died on the way In the cars and others were lying helpless and unable un-able to rise, and were shot by local humane officers. Still others went down after being unloaded In tho yards and were destroyed. In all, 20 of the cattle hae been shot by tho officers since, they were dlcovcrcd es-terday es-terday afternoon. Officers of the Humane Hu-mane Animal league found the stock lu the carB yesterday and reported their condition. Five officers of the league now have charge of the cattle. Threo of the stockmen arrested later In tho day were charged with cruelty to animals. Their names were given as L! F. Ogle, A. B. Holly and J. B. Parks, all of the Kidder ranch at Wilcox, Arizona. Ogle was released on his own recognizance. |
