Despite the fact that the Dixie crew was held to just one base hit by Lee Holmes of Cedar City they managed to score a run in the top of the seventh and walk off with the District Championship 1-0, and will participate this week in the sectional level of tournament play again to be hosted by Cedar City. Dixie opened the tournament play on Friday with a 11-3 victory vic-tory over Milford then drew a second round bye into the championship game. Cedar City on the other hand had to fight for their lives to score a 3-2 victory over Richfield in the opening game, come back to defeat Parowan by a score of 13-3 before meeting Dixie : for the championship Saturday night 1 Saturday afternoon Richfield ; whallopped Milford 18-1 in an i abbreviated game to win consolation con-solation honors in the five-team tournament In their opening game against again-st Richfield Cedar opened the scoring with a run in the second sec-ond frame. Jeff Jenson singled moved to second on an error and scored on a single by Lee Ho.'mes. They picked up a second sec-ond run in the fifth frame when Rick Rollo walked and came in to score on another double by Jensen. Going into the seventh frame it looked like Cedar had the victory leading 2-0, but Richfield came bouncing back. They started the frame with singles by Evans and Chidester. A walk to Martinez loaded the bases and both Evans and Chidester came in to score to knot the score at 2-all. With the bases loaded Chrlstensen of Richfield flyed out to deep left field. In the bottom of the frame Brian Hirschl walked to lead off the inning, he moved to third on a single by Rick Rollo and scored the game winning run on a single by Robert Morris. Mor-ris. Steve Stoker was on the mound for Cedar City in the contest and Evans did the hurling hurl-ing for Richfield. Stoker gave up just four hits, two in the seventh inning. He effectively used his curve ball to keep the Richfield crew behind throughout through-out the game. Kim Neilson came to the mound to hurl the Cedar City th. Jensen began the inning with a double and moved on a stolen base to third with no outs. Holmes grounded out to second, Stoker struck out and with two men out and two strikes on the batter Bret Smith, Jensen attempted a steal of home base and was tagged out by the catcher. In the top of the seventh the game was won as Empey the Dixie catcher hit a pop fly in the Infield to start the frame. It was dropped by Holmes and as he attempted to throw to first the throw was wild and Empey wound up on second base. A wild pitch moved Empey Em-pey to third. Allred of Dixie struck out and Averett, the short stop laid down a perfect bunt five feet in front of the plate on a suicide squeeze to score Empey from third. The run broke a 0-0 deadlock and turned into the winning run of the District tournament. Cedar City went down one, two, three in the bottom of the frame to end the game. GAME ACTION. Different in the Isom of Dixie led off the first inning with a walk and wound up on third base only to be stranded when Holmes picked up his first strikeout of the game to end the frame. Cedar came back in the first inning to threaten when Jensen Jen-sen singled and wound up on third base, only to be stranded as Hurst struckout three in the inning. In the second inning Cedar City pushed men to second and third with two away only to be stranded again with a timely time-ly strikeout by Hurst.
