Show Thirteen Little League teams vie for tourney honors Second round action in the District Little League tournament tourna-ment will continue today in Cedar City. The 13-team tournament opened Wednesday with the first game at 10 ajn. Games in the consolation bracket will begin today at 10 a.m. and the tournament will continue through Saturday with the District finalist to be crowned in a game slated for 5:30 p.m. It Is the second successive year that Cedar City has hosted the District tournament which draws teams from Richfield on the north and Dixie and Kanab on the south and as far west as Lincoln County, Nevada. Cedar City American League is the defending champion of the tournament having won the event last year and advancing to sectional play at the new Little League complex in southern south-ern California. Only one team will advance from the tournament, however, a consolation division will be played to give each of the participating par-ticipating teams an opportunity to play a minimum of two games. Serving as general chairman of the tournament is Nord Jen-kens. Jen-kens. He is being assisted by Arlo Larson and Jack Carters, presidents of the Cedar National Nation-al and Cedar American Little Leagues, respectively. A host of other committee workers have been working diligently dili-gently to prepare the tournament, tourna-ment, house the visiting play-ers. play-ers. Fields are being prepared and are under the direction of the Cedar City Recreation Department. De-partment. Games today, Thursday, are being played at 10 a.m., 12 noon, 2, 4 and 6 p.m. Saturday the consolation championship game will be played at 3:30 p.m. followed by the championship game at 5:30 p.m. |
