Show Festival Ends on Optimistic Note The United States Film and Video Festival drew to a close on Sunday marking a highly successful week for organizers and participants alike. The real conclusion of the festival came Saturday night with the announcement of the film winners and the presentation of the John Ford Medallion to Henry Fonda, accepted by his son, Peter, First place winners in competition of independent films were Heartland and Gal Young Un, which tied for the honor. Second place was awarded to The Return of the Secacaus Seven. S 5 . Trinity and The War at Home. The Medallion award was presented by film director Mark Rydell, who, among his credits, lists the Reevers and The Rose. Rydell most recently directed Fonda's, Henry and Jane, along with Katherine Hepburn in "On Golden Pond." "Fonda" said Rydell, "has the ability to let you think he is not acting at all." Peter Fonda accepted the award for his father, who was in rehearsal for a production in California. "For years I resented being Henry Fonda's son... tonight is the first time I have ever publicly stated I am proud to be Henry Fonda's son. ..I 1 love my father." ! Fonda broke up the room ! when he explained that his j father should actually be . 1 President of the United j States: "He was President 1 three times, he should be President now." Festival activities officially concluded with a wrap-up session with Robert Redford on Sunday morning. (See accompaning piece). Susan Birell, director of this year's festival stated that they hope Park City will become the permanent home for the group.
