Show Americanism Is Subject Of Legion Program The American Legion and Auxiliary, Wm. R. Sands Post and Unit No. 5, held a joint session at the Legion hall Thursday Thurs-day evening, featuring the Americanism program. Commander Com-mander Calvin Monks conducted conduct-ed the meeting. Colors were advanced by La-var La-var Peterson and A. C. Tolboe and opening prayer was offered by Chaplain Blaine Brokaw. "America" was sung by the congregation. Mrs. Wm. Harris, Americanism American-ism chairman, introduced the winners of the1 essay contest, Clayton Huber and Ida Andrews, An-drews, and the honorable mention men-tion winner, Nade'ne Chugg. (The students read their essays, which were excellent and well presented). Each essay was received re-ceived with rounds of applause. Checks for $4.00 each were presented pre-sented to the winners, while $2.00 was presented for the honorable hon-orable mention. A vocal solo, "My America," by Mrs. Marjorie Jenson, accompanied accom-panied by Mrs. O. A. Dart, was followed by the guest speaker, Ted Thomas, Sr., who spoke on Americanism, and recited several sev-eral poems relative to the subject. sub-ject. The congregation joined in singing, "God Bless America." A highlight of the program was the colored slides presented by Mrs. Henry J. Van Doorne. The scenes were taken in Korea by her husband, who spent several months in the war zone. Mrs. Van Dome gave an interesting talk on the picture subjects as she presented the slides. Colors were retired and the meeting adjourned. Delicious refreshments were served to about 40 members and guests as a final climax. |
