Show GREAT FLOOD THREATENED Village on Ohio Rivor May Bo Soon Swept Entirely Away. SUA WNEETOWN, HI., Jan. 10. This place, a village of 1500 population popula-tion upon the bend of tho Ohio river near the Indiana and Kentucky State lines, is threatened with a repetition of the great flood of 1808, which devas-tatedthe devas-tatedthe country for miles nround and caused loss of life and groat suffering. The water at noon today had reached forty-three feet and was steadily rising. ris-ing. Heavy rains continue. Sccretar' of State Rose was today sent a message asking that sixty tonts be sent at once for the use of those driven from their homes. All tho stores and buildings on the water fr"ont have been abandonod, and tho people arc homeless. News of tho flood conditions wore communicated to Gov. Deneon at Chicago Chi-cago by long-distance telephone, and he at once directed that Adjutant-Gen. Scott send a supply of tents for the re- j lief of the flood sufferers. |
