The Scn-7rtcCTom'niittcc Scn-7rtcCTom'niittcc on Arid Lands "today authorized au-thorized Senator Flint to report favorably, favor-ably, with modifications, his bill providing provid-ing for Uic repair of damage caused by the diversion of the waters of the Colorado Colo-rado river in southern California into tho Salton sea. The bill authorizes the expenditure of $2,000,000 for improvements, improve-ments, including reservoir and water wa3's and other works necessary to confine con-fine tho river within its banks and pro-vent pro-vent its further diversion. The bill also authorizes the construction construc-tion of such reservoirs and ditches as may be useful for the irrigation of the Imperial valley and other valleys in that vicinity. It directs that such proportion pro-portion of t lie coast shall be returned to the treasury as may bo of direct benefit bene-fit to any irrigation project, the money to be repaid when received from the water users. The bill does not complicate com-plicate the Government work with that of existing irrigation companies. It further provides that in case it becomes necessary to do an- work in Mexico it may be done when the consent of tho Government of that country is obtained. |
